When I graduated from the University of Miami in 2012 and moved back to Atlanta, the first thing that I did was search for a new hair salon that specialized in maintaining healthy hair. After years of mistreating my hair in college, it was time for a change and I was officially ready to commit to taking better care of my tresses. I had been natural (i.e. perm free) for about 6 months and my hair fell just above my shoulder. It was dry and broken in places and needed some major TLC (which my superstar hair stylist, Sanae Murata, provided)!
Now, my hair is stronger, longer, and healthier than ever and I owe it mostly to keratin treatments (and Sanae, of course). I got my first keratin treatment in 2013 after going back and forth about it and doing tons of research. Since then, I have gotten a treatment every 4-6 months and my hair has grown tremendously. On top of that, it’s more manageable and straightens easily. While I have embraced my curls and rock my hair in it’s natural state often, I’m a lover of straight hair! Keratin treatments have empowered me to wear my hair bone straight without completely ruining its natural curl pattern.
I’m often asked about my haircare regimen and about keratin treatments and, while I have become pretty knowledgable, I’m in no way an expert. I partnered with my fabulous hair stylist, friend, and fellow blogger Sanae Murata of The Peach and Onion to bring you the facts about keratin:
